Smooth As Funk
Smooth As Funk was founded in 2016 after a few local musicians (and some employees of a DMV music venue!) started playing together. The band started playing for regularly programmed shows and then added in a rotation of shows for several charities, corporate events, and now weddings and private parties! Over the years, Smooth AF has grown to become a merging of funk, blues and rock – with a distinct flare driven by neo-soul influence.
The band is a compilation of some of the DMV’s favorite local artists and is fronted by local venue Jammin Java’s very own Lana Mahmoud. Each show has a unique rotation of musicians… we like to keep things interesting.
Born of Jammin Java
Starting out, we did local gigs. Over the years, we realized the only way for us to evolve as a band was to branch out into other venues. With support from our local community, we are trying to log hundreds of gigs — with the occasional show appearance — mainly in Virginia, Maryland and DC for now. Our time as a band proved crucial in shaping our sound.
Looking to the Future
We’re looking for more gigs and festivities across the U.S. in support of our band. Our set list will prominently feature favorites from the 70's, 80's, 90's & current. Check out our events page for when we’ll be playing near you.
